My name is Diamond!
I am 26 years old and was born in Brooklyn, New York but raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. I started to dance at the age of three, was a member of a dance company and competed locally, leading me to attend the elementary, middle, and high school of the performing arts as a dance major. Dancing has always been my passion and my strong point.
Growing up my plan was to one day attend college to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in dance, own a dance studio, and become a dance teacher. However, God had other plans for my life. In 2012, my life changed forever when I agreed to give my friend a ride in my car to meet up with his friends. When we arrived at the destination I realized the men he was meeting were setting him up to be robbed. They shot my car with automatic rifles and my car was struck with over 79 bullets. With God’s grace and mercy, I survived with a T12 spinal cord injury from the waist down at 18 years old. I had to recreate my life from what I knew it to be to what it had so quickly become.
With faith in God, I decided to turn my pain into purpose and not let my situation define me. I enrolled in college and achieved my goal of obtaining a degree. In 2019 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Sciences and Speech Disorders.
Turning pain into purpose allowed me the recognize that I can still live my life despite my challenges and continue to be that beautiful DIAMOND I was created to be! I am a survivor of gun violence not because of what I have been through. I am a survivor because of what I have done after the storm. LIVE LEARN & PROSPER.
